Salisbury Musical Society: Mendelssohn’s Elijah

Salisbury Musical Society will sing Mendelssohn’s great choral work Elijah. The work is an oratorio with a structure based on the works of Baroque composers such as Bach and Handel, whom Mendelsohn greatly admired. However, the lyricism and orchestral colour is very much the work of Mendelssohn’s romantic genius.

The orchestra of Chelsea Opera Group, with whom SMS have a long and fruitful collaboration, will accompany this work.

The conductor will be the Cathedral’s Director of Music, David Halls.
