PATRICK FLANAGHAN at Salisbury Cathedral School

Patrick Flanaghan and John Reid in Concert

Renowned Royal Philharmonic Cor Anglais & Oboist Patrick Flanaghan Returns to Salisbury Cathedral School for Intimate Concert with Fellow Alumni John Reid, Principal Pianist of the Aurora Orchestra

Patrick Flanaghan and John Reid, both alumni of Salisbury Cathedral School, will reunite on 20 March 2026 to perform together at a special concert featuring the UK premiere of two works by O Foghlu.

Tickets available from: www.salisburycathedralschool.com/Forthcoming-Events/

Returning to their educational home, the musicians will support Music Matters, the school’s initiative to widen access to high-quality musical education across the city — a cause close to both their hearts.

Patrick comments: “My years at Salisbury Cathedral School were pivotal to my development as a musician. To come back alongside John, who experienced those same early opportunities, and contribute to Music Matters — a programme that opens doors for young musicians — feels especially rewarding.”

The concert programme reflects the breadth and depth of both performers’ artistry, combining Patrick Flanaghan’s expressive virtuosity with John Reid’s refined and versatile pianism. Together they will explore repertoire ranging from Baroque elegance and Romantic intimacy to the haunting modernism of contemporary composers. Highlights include:

  • Telemann, Fantasie
  • Bach, G minor Sonata
  • Clara Schumann, Romances
  • Britten, Temporal Variations
  • Yvon, Sonata (Cor)
  • O Foghlu, The Loneliest Boy and Cé leis Thú (UK Premiere)
  • Koechlin, Au Loin

SALISBURY CATHEDRAL SCHOOL

One of the oldest educational establishments in the world, our school was founded in 1091 by St Osmund, nephew of William the Conqueror and Bishop of Salisbury, to educate the choristers of his Cathedral at Old Sarum, a mile away from our present site. After 150 years at Old Sarum, the choristers’ school moved to Salisbury, following the building of the new Cathedral and in 1947 the school finally came to its present home, based in the 13th century buildings and grounds of the Bishop’s Palace.
