A Choral Foundation Concert: St Matthew Passion – J S Bach

J S Bach’s St Matthew Passion is the crowning achievement of one of the greatest composers of all time and the culmination of a tradition of musical passion settings performed during Holy Week, the week before Easter.   It is written for two choruses, two orchestras and six soloists. The first performance was in 1727 at the Good Friday Vespers in Leipzig’s Saint Thomas’ Church.
Our Cathedral Choir is joined by soloists James Oxley (Evangelist) and Neal Davies (Christus) and the period instrument ensemble Florilegium for a performance of JS Bach’s St Matthew Passion (sung in English).
A Programme Booklet is available for £3.
