Choral favourites and music to commemorate the Centenary of the death of Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.

St John Singers will be joined for this concert by Salisbury Clarinet Quartet Chalumeaux ( Amanda Creese, Sue de Garis, Libby Poppleton and Petra Randall )

St John Singers will present their Spring Concert at the Methodist Church, St Edmund’s Church Street, Salisbury on Saturday 9 March 2024 at 7.30pm

The programme will feature music by
Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, the 100th anniversary of whose death we commemorate this year. Pieces will range from large- scale settings of the Te Deum, to smaller, more intimate unaccompanied motets.

Stanford was one of the leading composers, conductors and teachers of his generation, and has left a wonderful legacy of fine church music compositions

And we are delighted to welcome the clarinet quartet, CHALUMEAUX, as our guest soloists for this concert.

Tea, Coffee and Cake will be provided for the interval.

SAINT JOHN SINGERS

St John Singers was founded almost 50 years ago by John Powell MBE our Emeritus Director of Music. We are a mixed choir of some fifty voices with members coming from Salisbury and the surrounding area. The choir enjoys a varied repertoire covering sacred and secular music from the Tudor period to the present day. Our concerts have supported nearly two hundred different charities over the years, raising significant funds for them.
