A Shakespeare Miscellany

Robin Blaze – counter tenor
Elizabeth Kenny – lute/theorbo
Dickon Tyrrell – readings

Shakespeare’s plays are filled with music and songs at every turn, some written specially for specific plays, and others adapted from the varied diet of songs circulating in the form of ballads and of song books. The language we associate with Shakespeare permeates the lute songs which burst into print at the same time, catering to a sudden demand from book-buyers for beautiful texts in English to sing at home. After the Restoration in 1660, Shakespeare lived on in adaptations to which music was added at every turn. Dickon Tyrrell, fresh from playing the title role in a new production of Julius Caesar at the Globe Theatre and on tour, joins counter-tenor Robin Blaze and lute player Elizabeth Kenny, to weave Shakespeare’s words and music together in the atmospheric setting of Salisbury Medieval Hall.
