18th Century Dance Workshop & Masterclass

Come and enjoy an inspiring 2 day workshop of English dances, Playford style dances and especially choreographed dances led by the acclaimed early dance specialist Cécile Laye from Paris.

This is a rare opportunity for anyone interested in 18th century dance to come and learn with the one of the finest teachers of historic dance. This masterclass and workshop –  taking place once a term in Salisbury and Winchester –  will cover dances from the period 1680 – 1800, and will also put emphasis on technique, presentation and performance, as well as dance. The weekend is aimed at experienced dancers with either an early dance or ballet background. Less experienced dancers may be considered.

This first two day event will take place at Weeke Primary School in Winchester. Participants should ideally attend for both days, or for just on the Saturday.

There will be a 45 minute lunch break each day. Bring a packed lunch. Tea, coffee and refreshments provided.

We are an exciting, new historic dance group based in the Salisbury/Winchester area specialising in English county dances and French baroque dances from the period 1650 - 1800. The group which meets fortnightly is taught by a number of guest teachers, all of them specialists in their field. In the coming year we plan to work towards becoming a costumed performances team displaying dances to the highest standards. Competent dancers ideally with a ballet, historic or Scottish country dance background are welcome, as are keen beginners.
